Recently I visited Dr Glenn Gaudette's bioengineering laboratory at Boston College. He created the first engineering department at Boston College and developed their Human-Centered Engineering Program, which encourages cross-disciplinary concerns. His team is working on the development of scaffolding from de-cellularized spinach leaves to provide oxygen to cardiovascular cells to be used to regenerate damaged cardiac tissue (as well as using the plant structure to facilitate lab grown meat cells). I took the photo below during my visit to the lab - it was taken in a special chamber where a de-cellularized spinach leaf is receiving oxygenation.

During my lab visit, I took the below closeups of materials and devices used in their research.
