First Aid Collectibles
First Aid Collectibles is a series of small (2.75” x 1.25”) works which are altered “first aid trade cards.” The originals were included as advertisements in Will’s Cigarette packets in England in 1913, and were meant to be collected, much like baseball cards. They contained images of bandaged wounds, with detailed instructions on the back for how to create the bandages for specific injuries. In my transformed versions, I retained the images of the bandages, but I added elements which hint at different ways of protecting and healing wounds. Fifteen of these works were included in my exhibition, Embodiments, at La Specola museum in Florence in 2012/2013.
